A man is due to appear in court today charged with commercial robbery and possession of an offensive weapon following a robbery at a Sainbury’s in Carshalton.
Police were called to reports of a robbery at the supermarket in Stanley Park Road at 8.55pm on Thursday.
One of the suspects is believed to have been arrested by an off-duty police officer who was shopping in the store at the time.
Nicky Shanahan, 31, of Carshalton, was arrested and taken to a south London police station where he was later charged.
He has been remanded in custody to appear before Camberwell Magistrates' Court today.
Police are still looking for another suspect.
