Brave hospice charity staff rushed to give emergency treatment to women stabbed in a Hampton car park while a knife rampage was still going on.

Victims have thanked staff at the Shooting Star Hospice in The Avenue, who led the terrified women from the Sainsbury’s car park into their building during the Friday attack so the nursing team could give them treatment.

They also ushered members of the public behind the building’s security gates to keep them safe during the attack.

Ethem Aydin Orhon, 66, of Deacons Walk, Hampton, was charged with four counts of attempted murder and one count of possessing an offensive weapon and will appear in Crown Court in June.

Rani Chandi, 71, was one of the four women injured during the stabbing and suffered wounds in her lower back.

She was kept in hospital overnight but is now back at home in Hampton recovering.

Ms Chandi said: "I think I was the last victim as I was at the bus stop when I heard this terrified scream and saw this woman on the ground.

"I was going to call 999 but he clocked me and made a lunge at me."

She added: "I didn’t realise I had been stabbed at first, I just thought he had hit me.

"When I stopped a lady [in a car] to ask for help, I felt wet behind my back.

"The staff at the Shooting Star Hospice came down and took me upstairs and tended to my wounds.

"Once they arrived, the ambulance came and took me to St George’s Hospital.

"I'm lucky I suppose. If I had fallen down it could have been much worse."

Ms Hillery said the thoughts of the staff and families connected to the Shooting Star hospice, which cares for young people with life-limiting conditions, were with the victims of the attack after such a traumatic event.

Ms Chandi added: "I couldn’t believe it would happen somewhere like Hampton.

"I have lived here for 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened.

"It is very traumatic for all of the victims."
