A lonely baby woodpecker is the newest patient at a Leatherhead animal welfare centre.
The unusual bundle of feathers was found alone and with a suspected wing injury in Gatton Park in Reigate and rushed to the Wildlife Aid Foundation (WAF) in Randalls Road, Leatherhead.
The baby bird had suffered scratches to the left side of its beak and couldn’t open its left eye, but was not wounded.
Vets gave the woodpecker antibiotics, eye medication and fluids.
The woodpecker is being cared for by vet Emma Lloret Avella until it is big enough and strong enough for a second chance in the wild.

A spokesman for the WAF said: “It is doing well and gaining strength and it is hoped it will eventually be released back into the wild near where it was found.”
