Firefighters were called out to protect houses at risk of flooding after heavy rainfall last night.
Crews handed out sandbags to homes in Worcester Park and Stonecot after drains overflowed, spewing sewage into the road.
Firefighters were sent to Stonecot Close, Ridge Road and Browning Avenue after a number of roadside drains overflowed.
A firefighter at Sutton station said: “If the water can’t drain away properly we provide sand bags to homes that are affected.
“Luckily the water did not get into the properties, although in some cases the water was just one inch away from getting inside.”
Some drivers were stranded in water as roads flooded, according to posts on social media.
Gina Dalton wrote on the Worcester Park Facebook page: “Avoid Worcester Park railway bridge, completely flooded and cars broken down in the middle.”
