A cookery school in Battersea is the first in London dedicated to cooking Spain’s national dish.

Chefs from Valencia and Colombia have joined forces to open the London Paella School at London Cooking Project on the Ethelburga Estate in Battersea.

The Monday night sessions will teach students not only how to cook the dish but also exchange words in Spanish and learn about the origins of the dish.

Founder Xavi Morono said: “We want to raise awareness about the infinite world of paella in the British community in a fun and accessible way.

“Our classes will provide students with a basic knowledge of paella and give them the tools they need to advance their skills to create more elaborate recipes in an environment of fellowship and teamwork.

“These values, which are directly related to the tradition of this renowned dish, mean cooking paella in a group is not only a fun way to meet people and learn new skills but is also the perfect activity for team building.”

As well as the cooking classes, the school is also running a Paella and Fire lunch club one Sunday a month where guests can enjoy a different type of paella or tapa each week alongside a salad buffet with bring your own drinks. It costs £25 for adults, £12 for children aged six to 11 and free for under fives.
