The home of the Royal Academy of Dance is to be converted into flats and townhouses after permission was granted by Wandsworth Council's planning committee.

Wandsworth Times:

The academy is moving out of its home in Battersea Square and it is set to be redeveloped to become five four-storey townhouses, with a block of 34 flats.

At the planning meeting, held on Thursday, April 21, Councillor Will Sweet, who lives opposite the development, said: "I love it, I think it looks fantastic.

"It preserves the historic building, replaces two unique buildings with modern, sympathetic buildings.

"I fully support it."

Councillor Sarah McDermott said it was a "positive scheme".

The main warehouse building will be converted from dance academy into nine one-bedroom homes, 17 two-bedroom homes, eight three-bedroom homes and five four-bedroom homes, all sold at the market rate.

The two-storey Fonteyn building will be demolished, as will the two-storey extension on the north east of the site, and the glazed brick link.

The granary building will be extended and converted in 34 flats.

Five townhouses will be built along the south of the site, and in total, there will be 13 parking spaces provided, four of those disabled and space for 73 bicycles.

Community Infrastructure Levy will bring in £262,972 to the borough, and £52,594 to the Mayor of London.

The application is subject to strict conditions as it is in a conservation area, with several listed buildings nearby.
