Two men have been charged with assaulting and obstructing police after being arrested in dramatic scenes at Mitcham Tramlink stop yesterday.

A large number of police were seen in the area from 5.30pm on Wednesday, February 10. 

Most had left by 6pm, although some remained in nearby Mitcham Park slightly later.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that two men were arrested out of a large group of males after officers were called to Church Lane.

Aimen Semri, 19, of St John's Drive, Earlsfield, was charged on Thursday, February 11, with three counts of assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty and one count of breach of bail conditions. 

He was bailed to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Friday, February 12, for breach of court order, and bailed to the same court until Thursday, March 17, for assault on police.

Mustafa Esmail, 18, of Haldane Place, Earlsfield, was also charged with obstructing police officers in the execution of their duty. 

He has also been bailed to attend Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 17.
