A 60-year-old man needed stitches after he was pushed down the stairs by a fellow commuter at Putney station last Monday.

The incident happened around 7.30pm on February 1, when the 60-year-old accidentally bumped into another man at the ticket barriers.

He went to hospital and was treated for a head injury.

British Transport Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Sergeant Dan Holmes said: "At a busy station like Putney it is inevitable people will inadvertently come into contact with each other, but that doesn't excuse any form of violent retaliation.

"Aside from the man needing stitches, he was also treated for a black eye, along with gashes and bruising to his hands and face.

"This was a cowardly attack on a man involved in what was simply an accident.

"I'm calling on anyone who can help us identify the man in the image we've circulated to get in touch."
