An academy trust has won Government approval to open a new special school for pupils with autism.
The Greenshaw Learning Trust, which runs Greenshaw High School, will provide 56 places for 11-to-19-year-olds in Sutton.
The Department for Education (DfE) said the announcement followed "parental demand for places".
The school is expected to open in September 2017 and will provide eight places in each year.
It will be linked to Greenshaw's planned new 1,450-pupil secondary school as well as Green Wrythe Primary School, which is also a base for children with autism.
A DfE spokesman said: "Small year groups will facilitate a personalised provision of the curriculum and pastoral support.
"A smoother transition to secondary school and the development of personal independence will help to transform the lives of many children and their families in the community of Sutton."
The trust's proposal for the school, which will be designated free school, was drawn up with help from Sutton Council.
