Four men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an injured man was found lying in the road at 4.30am on Sunday.
Police say the 23-year-old was taken to hospital, treated for minor injuries and then discharged.
The four men - aged 25, 26, 24 and 24 - were arrested in Surbiton's Victoria Road about 25 minutes later.
A BMW was seized by the police.
The incident in Kingston town centre saw Kingston Hall Road closed in both directions.
A witness reported seeing markers in the road, which runs between Jamie's restaurant and Kingston College, past the police station.
Markers are usually used by collision investigators after a serious crash.
