A labourer who battered a man with a toaster, slashed his buttocks with a knife and then torched his blood-soaked flat was sentenced to 16-and-a-half years in prison yesterday.

Kamil Radkiewicz, 27, pleaded guilty to attempted murder at Kingston Crown Court in August.

Radkiewicz, of Lessness Road, in Morden, followed his victim to his flat in Castelnau, Barnes, on November 30 last year after they met on a bus that morning.

The victim, who said he has no recollection of his ordeal, suffers a broken nose and jaw, burns to the inside of his mouth, haemorrhaging inside his eyes, a fractured skull, burns to his palms, and contusions to the brain.

He was later placed into a medically-induced coma and has since attended "hundreds" of medical appointments as a result of the attack.

Radkiewicz said he "lost control" when there was no money exchanged following an undetermined sexual act.

A bottle of lubricant and a tissue were found in the living room of the flat.

Radkiewicz has previous convictions in Poland for battery and burglary, but no convictions in this country.

Judge Peter Lodder said: "This was an horrific, unprovoked attack on a defenceless man in what should have been the safety of his own home.

"I am unable to decide what the sexual background of the incident was.

"What is clear is that when you left, there was blood spread throughout his flat, over the carpets and the walls.

"You are 27 years of age and have a number of convictions.

"I am satisfied that a lengthy, determined sentence is sufficient."
