Police remained at the spot where a mass fight broke out last night, leaving one man fighting for his life in hospital. 

Unconfirmed reports suggest a group of Tamil men used axes to hit each other over the head as part of a huge fight where five men were arrested and three hospitalised.

Wimbledon Times:

The men's injuries were described as serious, with one man fighting for his life. 

Police officers kept the area cordoned off for the whole day today.

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to Holborn Way, Mitcham to reports of a fight involving a large group of men at 7.17pm on Monday, November 23.

A 26-year-old man was found with serious head injuries. He is in a critical condition in hospital, and his injuries are believed to be life threatening. 

Wimbledon Times:

Another 26-year-old and a 29-year-old are also being treated in hospital for serious injuries, although these are not believed to be life threatening. 

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and are in custody at south London police stations. 

The men are aged 21, 27, 34, 37 and 40. 

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service's Trident Gang and Area Crime Command are investigating.
