Here it is, the final trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, starring south Londoner John Boyega.

A poster – in the same style of the iconic advertisements from the original trilogy - was revealed yesterday as tickets went on sale.

Then last night in the US – the early hours of the morning here – the new promo clip for the film debuted during half time at the New York Giants v Philadelphia Eagles American Football Game on ESPN.

Both releases have sent fans into hyperdrive and cinema chains have been hit with huge demand for tickets online, ahead of the film arriving in cinemas in December.

Vue sold 10,000 tickets in the first 90 minutes of being on sale yesterday morning.

A spokesperson said: “Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens is set to be the family blockbuster of the year.

“We sold 10,000 tickets in the first 90 minutes of being on sale this morning – the biggest first hour of advance ticket sales seen so far this year when it would normally take a matter of weeks for advance sales to reach this level.

“Our customers continue to purchase online with ease and at the speed of light and in the last five hours we have processed 20,000 tickets.”

The Force Awakens, directed by JJ Abrams, is the first Star Wars release in a decade and reunites several of the stars of the classic original trilogy, including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo respectively.

A number of fresh faces are set to make the debuts in the film series including Attack the Block star John Boyega, who was born in Peckham and studied at South Thames College in Wandsworth.
