An elderly woman was attacked from behind and robbed near a busy parade of shops on bank holiday Monday.

The victim, who is 86, was shopping in Central Parade, New Addington when she withdrew some cash just before noon.

As she went to walk home along Chertsey Crescent she was attacked from behind and had her shopping bag pulled from her knocking her to the floor.

The black bag had white writing on the side and £100 within her purse, together with her bank card.

She was found on the floor with a cut hand 15 minutes later by a neighbour, who called the police.

The suspect is described as white, in his 30s, about 5ft 11ins and was wearing a long green coat with a zip and light coloured trousers. He was also wearing a hood.
