Rick Astley, Milton Jones and Michael Portillo are not a trio you would usually expect in the same room, but they will grace the same stage in the coming months.

This autumn Kingstonians will be able to experience the very different entertainment styles of all three at the Rose Theatre.

Fans of Astley’s 1980s cheesy pop might be a little surprised by the singer's new sound as he performs with his band The Luddites.

The group will be playing a selection of garage rock covers on December 18 according to the theatre's new season line-up announced this week.

Of course they will still perform Astley’s seminal 1987 hit Never Gonna Give You Up - albeit in a very different style to the original.

Comedy will also be featuring heavily in the Rose’s Autumn to Winter programme with the store making a return on September 27 and Milton Jones visiting with his tour the Temple of Daft on November 1.

Also touring to Kingston from November 12 to 14 is the hit west-end comedy Jeeves and Wooster, adapted from the works of P.G Woodhouse.

Ex-politician Michael Portillo comes to the Rose on October 12 to talk about his life and career. He will also be answering audience questions in the event titled Life: A Game of Two Halves.

John Link, the painter who depicts Shakespeare scenes and characters, is showing his work in the theatre from September 16 to November 21.

Oscar winner Judi Dench, who played Queen Titania in a 2010 Rose Theatre production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is a big fan.

She said: "I have been a fan of John Link’s work from the moment I first saw it.

"The portraits are bright and colourful, which I love.

"You know immediately which character is being portrayed, and you know there is a story there somewhere.

"I would fill my house with these paintings if I had the room."
