The A24 remains closed this morning and traffic congestion is severe following a three vehicle collision in which a man had to be cut free from his car.

The 20-year-old driver suffered suspected back and hip injuries when the Citroen Saxo he was in collided with other cars at 7.15am in Epsom Road on the way to Ashtead near the junction with Bowyers Close.

The road is currently closed at the junctions with Park Lane and Bramley Way and is expected to be so for an hour while the Citroen, a Mercedes and a Volkswagen are recovered.

A spokesman for SECAM confirmed it had sent two ambulances and a paramedic car and had taken the 20-year-old to St George’s Hospital in Tooting with reported back and hip pain. His condition is currently unknown.

Meanwhile a second unidentified patient has gone to Epsom General Hospital.

The road was closed following the incident and remains that way with slow traffic reported in both directions.
