A fundraising picnic is to be held by the mascot of AFC Wimbledon in remembrance of a brave four year-old who died from cancer.

Haydon the Womble, otherwise known as Dean Parsons, has organised the teddy bear’s picnic, scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 6 for local charity Momentum, who support children with cancer and life-limiting conditions.

From July 14: Tributes paid to four year-old football fan Ollie Lovis who has lost cancer battle

Football fan Ollie had the wonderful opportunity of being a mascot in a game between AFC Wimbledon and Torquay United, where he met the womble and his family.

Haydon the Womble had previously led fundraising drives, set up a blog and encoured members of the public to donate presents for Ollie’s last Christmas. A charity walk in May this year led by Ollie’s mother Terri raised a total of £1,367 for Momentum.

Ollie was diagnosed with cancer at the base of his skull in November 2013 and went to America for proton therapy, but tragically relapsed when the cancer spread to his spine, leg and hips late last year.

Haydon the Womble said: "As soon as we heard of his passing we wanted to do something to carry on his legacy and be a celebration of his life."

Momentum’s director Bianca Effemey said: "Ollie was loved by everyone who met him. He was a child who had the most amazing way to describe everything, he had such a passion for words even at such a young age.

"He really was the most adorable boy and will be greatly missed by everyone here at Momentum."

Mr Parsons is awaiting confirmation on a venue in the Epsom area for the picnic but is calling on businesses to support it. Email theparsons08@gmail.com to find out more.

The Lovis family have asked for donations to Momentum Children’s Charity at www.moment-um.org.
