A crash between a motorcyclist and cyclist this morning has led to both being hospitalised with serious injuries.

Police were called at 8.22am to the junction with Louisville Road in Balham High Road.

A witness who drove past just after the crash happened could see both people lying on the ground with people surrounding them, as emergency services rapidly arrived.

She said: “It looked quite shocking. Both people injured were quite far away from each other and on separate sides of the road so at first I thought the crashes were unrelated.

“I could see people holding the motorcyclist’s head and neck steady as they waited for help. He was conscious, but it looked serious.

“I could see the cyclist on the other side of the road, going towards Balham, surrounded by other cyclists doing what they could to help. It looked like a nasty crash.”

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said both had been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police are still there, with Louisville Road closed.

Balham High Road is closed between Tooting Bec Station and Trinity Crescent. Expect delays and diversions.

This crash comes weeks after a serious crash between an HGV and bicycle at the junction near Tooting Broadway station.
