A house fire in Thames Ditton is currently being dealt with by six fire engines and one aerial ladder platform.

The fire is just off Sugden Road and firefighters were called at 3.41pm.

Jane Longman, from Angel Cat Hotel, said she heard fire engines going past as they travelled to the fire.

She said she had been told the fire was something to do with a lock-up container site underneath the railway bridge.

She said: “There’s nasty smoke going. They blocked off all the roads - the smoke’s so bad the police aren’t letting you go up and have a look.”

A spokesman for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a house fire in Angel Road, Thames Ditton at 15.41 and sent six fire engines and one specialist vehicle to the scene.

"The fire seems to have begun in the loft area but there's nothing much more we can give at the moment due to the incident being in progress."
