A teenager is seriously injured in hospital after crashing a moped into a building with such force it triggered a gas leak.
The 17-year-old was riding along Anerley Hill in Crystal Palace at around 6pm on Saturday (July 4) when he collided with a wall.
London Ambulance Service paramedics took him to a south London hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
Firefighters were called to repair the damage to the building and make the gas leak safe.
Six people were evacuated from homes and shops nearby while fire crews worked at the scene for almost four hours.
The boy has been arrested on suspicion of taking and driving away and dangerous driving, police said.
Police, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were called to Anerley Hill at around 6.10pm.
Firefighters left the scene and the road reopened at around 9.50pm.
Bromley police are investigating.
