Fans of iconic 1980s film Back to the Future will not want to miss the chance to step back in time with Doc Brown and Marty McFly next weekend.

Ashtead will be hosting its very own ‘Secret Cinema’ style event for the much-loved time travel movie – taking inspiration from events that have been held in London for die-hard fans of films including Back to the Future (BTTF), Star Wars and The Shawshank Redemption.

St George’s Church and Christian Centre, in Barnett Wood Lane, Ashtead, will be transformed so guests can experience the world of Hill Valley for one night – from Doc’s workshop to a classic car garage, an American diner and the school hall set up for the "Enchantment Under the Sea" dance.

Entertainment will include live music, acting, a diner serving hotdogs and burgers and a pop-up make-up and hair salon so guests can try out the style of the 1950s and 1980s.

The film itself will also be screened and guests are encouraged to come dressed in 50s or 80s clothing.

Taking inspiration from the "Save the Clock Tower" campaign which is at the heart of BTTF, Hannah Underwood, from Ashtead, came up with the event to raise funds for two local charities in need - The Dell Project, a new church hall at St Giles Church, and Leatherhead charity The Pitstop which supports homeless and vulnerable people.

Ms Underwood said: "I have wanted to run this event for some time – something really fun and different for people to enjoy while having a truly worthwhile outcome.

"As there are two local charities at critical stages - the Dell Project to create a community hall for all to enjoy, and The Pitstop which is literally moving to new premises through its Forever Home Appeal, it felt like the ideal time to host this event.

"We are hoping to raise substantial funds for each charity while making sure that people have a night they will always remember."

Richard Langtry, The Pitstop’s chairman of trustees, said: "We are so grateful to Hannah and the team for including us as beneficiaries for this event.

"We are a small charity and it’s so helpful and heart-warming when local people offer their support.

"It sounds like such an unusual and fun event, too."

Robert Newhouse, from The Dell Project, added: "We hope that everyone very much enjoys this charity event with a difference and in a few months’ time they come and visit the new St Giles’ Dell Centre and enjoy that also."
