The 'victim' of a crowd mobbing her car in the 'mistaken belief' she was stealing a car may have left a nail bar without paying, it has emerged.

The incredible scene of five people clinging to a car trying to stop it drive away from a McDonald's drive-through, North Cheam, at about 7pm on Friday, May 15, was captured by a mobile phone video.

Sutton police initially said that the crowd had mistakenly "believed a car-jacking was taking place". They revealed a 27-year-old woman had then been arrested for failing to stop and dangerous driving.

One of the crowd fell face first to the floor as the car drove off. Two people were treated for minor injuries.

But this afternoon it emerged that police are now investigating a dispute between the driver and a nearby nail bar.

New York Nails shop in London Road, North Cheam, declined to comment.
