Surrey Comet news editor Ross Logan and his girlfriend Kirsten McGuire welcomed their second son into the world last week.

Ruairidh Logan was born in Kingston Hospital on Saturday at 6.43pm weighing 7lb 15oz.

He joins his parents and big brother, two-year-old Findlay Logan, at the family home in Surbiton.

Mr Logan said: “He’s settling in well. Findlay has been OK and has not been jealous or difficult.

“He seems to be accepting Ruairidh is here, but I don’t know whether he’s realised that he is here forever just yet.”

The unusual name was chosen because of its Gaelic origins.

Mr Logan said: “We always wanted to give him a Scottish name.

“Kirsten’s from Dundee and half of my family are from near Glasgow.

“Me and my siblings all have Scottish names and it’s nice to continue the tradition.”

Mr Logan joked that the unusually spelt name might give his son a lifetime of correcting its pronunciation and spelling.

He said: “I hadn’t thought about the spelling until he was born. That’s a nightmare for journalists everywhere, and I’m elated the Comet gets first crack at it.”

The birth was without any problems and the couple wanted to thank the hospital for the support they received.

Mr Logan said: “Thanks again to Kingston Hospital’s maternity ward and in particular our midwife Paris Larmond who was absolutely ace.”
