Taggers who vandalised street art in Croydon have called a truce with the gallery owner who dreamed up the idea and vowed it will never happen again.

Some murals created by the all women art group Femme Fierce in and around St George’s Walk may have to be removed and replaced with others because of the damage caused on the weekend.

Work was taking place yesterday to repair others so they look as good as they did when they were made last Sunday, February 15.

On Monday Rise gallery owner Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison appealed to the people who sprayed the tags to ask how they can stop it from happening.

He managed to track down someone who knew them and, with that person speaking on their behalf, agreed a truce.

Mr Zuchowski-Morrison said: "That person acted as an intermediary and we have been assured it is never going to happen again and they will never touch this patch again.

"We have had artists from all over saying can we come down and fix it and we are turning the art around.

"And the community response has been amazing and on Facebook and Twitter people were saying they are really sorry about what has happened."
