A chaplain at the University of Roehampton collapsed and died near campus on Friday.
Roman Catholic chaplain, Father Robert Kaggwa, was 55 and had worked at the university for nine years.
Dr Kaggwa was also a lecturer in Theology and Religious Studies at the university and was the chaplain to Digby Stuart College.
Professor Paul O’Prey, the university’s vice-chancellor, said his death had been a terrible shock to the many students and staff who knew him.
He said: “Robert dedicated his life to serving others and he had an exceptionally kind, gentle and generous spirit.
"He played a very active part in the university, leading formal worship with great warmth and personality, and through being engaged in the daily lives of a great many students and staff.
“He was a much-loved member of our community and will be greatly missed by his family and by his many friends at Roehampton and around the world.”
The university is expected to announce a formal commemoration for Dr Kaggwa soon.
