A woman seen in the Thames on Saturday morning was found safe and well at her home after emergency services launched a major operation to find her.

Your Local Guardian:

Teddington RNLI was called to Richmond Riverside, near Richmond Bridge and Gaucho, at 7.50am on January 10, after reports a woman was seen in the river, fully clothed, up to her neck.

The crew spoke to police at the riverside before going downstream to search for the woman and a crew from Chiswick RNLI was called.

The Port of London Authority, Metropolitan Police and police helicopter were also involved.

James Kavanagh, Teddington RNLI crew member, said: "We were about one hour into the search and the police told us they had been to the lady's house and apparently she was found there, but said she was wet.

"We have no idea how she got there. She was very lucky."

The Teddington crew returned to their station at about 10.30am.

Mr Kavangh added: "For us, that was a pretty major search because there was a lot of resources. At one point, I thought we could be looking at something different.

"The river was running fast and at one point, the search went as far down as Kew Bridge."
