An auction night raised more than £5,000 to help a little boy who lost his mum and brother in a car crash.

The money was put in a trust fund for Alfie Arnold, 7, after his mother Nicola Morris, 29, and his brother Kai, 11, died following a crash in Ewell Road, Banstead, on July 5.

His father Dave Arnold’s cousin Stacey Reynolds and her best friend Tamara Armstrong, 29, organised a fundraising evening for him at the Lord Nelson pub in Sutton last month.

Among the many donated auction prizes, there was a diary signed by popular entertainer Lionel Blair, a Chelsea football shirt signed by the team and signed Theo Walcott football boots.

Ms Armstrong, from Worcester Park, said: "It went really. It was a really good night in the end. We had a turn out of about 150 people, which was amazing.

"I was genuinely touched by the show of love and support everyone came out to offer. It really has restored my faith in humanity - people do care.  "

A Facebook group for the event and trust fund thanked everyone who donated lots for the auction and came along on the night.

It said: "Without your help this wouldn't have been possible, we made over £5000 on the night, Alfie is over the moon and so are we!! Such a fantastic start."
