A football club has organised an art competition to stamp out racist and homophobic language in schools.

AFC Wimbledon launched the Mind Your Language creative contest ahead of its Season of Action match against Mansfield Town on December 20.

A club spokesman said: "The aim is for pupils to discuss discrimination in football or school and then design and make a flag to combat this."

AFC Wimbledon first team manager Neal Ardley and club captain Alan Bennett will choose the winning flag.

The winning school will receive an art supplies voucher worth £250 plus 60 tickets to the football match against Mansfield town where their artwork will be displayed.

Every school which enters the competition will receive a £50 art supplies voucher and 10 tickets to the upcoming football match.

After the match the artwork will be displayed in prominent locations in Merton.

The competition will see the Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF), Kick It Out, AFC Wimbledon and Merton Council work hand-in-hand to combat swearing and discrimination.

Kick It Out aims for football equality and works in tandem with FSF’s goal to increase awareness of diversity within young football followers and Merton Council’s aim to eradicate derogatory language.
