Objectors have been told their comments and a petition against Walton Charity's plans to build on open ground will not stand.

Neighbours of land in Severn Drive, Walton, battled against the charity's first attempt to build on its own land, resulting in the withdrawal of the application.

Now Walton Charity has submitted another proposal, which critics said was very similar to the first - one resident did not even realise it was a new application. It had been suggested that campaigning already done against the first development could be taken straight overt to the second, but that has been refused.

The current proposal, if approved, would use 39 per cent of the land, which is the same amount proposed in the first application.

Alex Meir, 39, of Fox Hollow Close, returned from holiday to read about the new proposal and, when querying why he was reading about it again, neighbours told him not to worry because it was referring to the old application.

Mr Meir said: "The charity involved are determined to make this happened."

The council agreed the decision not to carry over the previous petition and objections may be frustrating, but said the second application was a separate issue and needed to be considered afresh.

Jackie Lodge, chief executive of Walton Charity, said: "The application has been amended to provide a 4 per cent reduction in footprint and retaining two tree to the front of the site.

"We have also enhanced the landscaping of the majority 61 per cent of the site which will, subject to our negotiations with Elmbridge Council, remain open, green space for use by the public."

Currently there are 38 letters of objection for the second application, with the closing date for comments November 14.
