Campaigners against a controversial care home have dismissed a meeting held by the developer on the plans as "tosh" and said it was a complete waste of time.

The Goodman Group organised a meeting last Thursday over its second planning application for a care home with 150 rooms on Nescot College’s land in Reigate Road.

The group is also appealing to the Planning Inspectorate after Epsom Council rejected its original plans for being "overbearing" and "bulky" with insufficient parking and no affordable rooms.

Under the revised plans, the building is set further back from the main roads and more trees have been added. But many residents remain concerned about its size, traffic, parking issues and loss of green space.

The meeting was organised by the Goodman Group which said it was doing it to inform residents of "what is happening and why" but refused to allow the press to be present to report on what it is proposing.

Lindy and Stuart Seymour, who live opposite the site in Reigate Road, attended the meeting and believe the Goodman Group have, in the new planning application, only made strategic changes aimed at addressing the issues being considered by the Planning Inspectorate in their first application - scale, height and mass.

The couple said: "The meeting was a complete waste of time. They think prettifying it is enough.

"It was confirmed at the meeting that the two horses, both with the same owner, with different planning application numbers will be dealt with as to which one passes the finishing post first.

"The meeting was initiated by the Goodman Group in order that they might crow about their recent leaflet, You Spoke, We Listened, We Responded.

"It is utter tosh. All they have taken into account in putting in this second application are the three stumbling points still outstanding with the first."

In June, Nescot received planning permission for 91 homes on the rest of the 14-acre site.  It plans to sell the land for the developments to fund renovations to its campus.

The number of the new planning application is (14/00967/FUL).
