Staff from the UK’s leading military rehabilitation centre raced each other in a poppy-creating extravaganza ahead of the launch of this year's Poppy Appeal.

Six teams at Headley Court, near Epsom, took part in the challenge last Wednesday, October 15, to raise awareness of The Royal British Legion.

Those participating battled it out to create as many poppies as possible during a 10-minute period using components provided by the Poppy Factory.

As a further challenge, different restrictions were placed on team members to simulate the types of injuries service personnel at Headley Court have suffered.

The Legion provides care and support to members of the British Armed Forces past and present and their families.

This year’s Poppy Appeal will start on Saturday, October 25, and will see more than 45 million poppies being distributed across the UK and overseas by 350,000 dedicated collectors.

The money raised from each poppy will go directly to the charity’s welfare work which provides through-life care to anyone who is currently serving in the British Armed Forces or who has previously served, and their families.

In July, the Government announced that Headley Court will be replaced by a new state-of-the-art £300m complex in the Midlands by the end of 2017.
