A man was pistol-whipped by a masked burglar who broke into his house in the early hours of the morning.

Armed robbers wearing black hoodies and balaclavas, forced the front door open of the house in Stanley Park Road in Carshalton, before demanding cash from a married couple as they were laying in bed.

The violent break-in happened at around 1.37am on Saturday morning.

The 42-year-old man was hit with a gun and cut with a knife as he grappled with the two men.

After the attack the burglars tied the couple up, before making off with a large stash of money.

The robbers, who are both described as black and aged between 28 and 33, also stole house and car keys.

The man and his 32-year-old wife managed to break free and call police, before being taken to a south London hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

One burglar was described as being around 5ft 9ins tall, of stocky build, and wearing a black bomber jacket.

The other was around 6ft tall, and both were said to have London accents.
