Chessington took their hosts all the way in this thrilling Premier Challenge Cup third round match at Merland Rise on Saturday, only to lose to a hotly disputed penalty in extra-time.

Fifth-placed Banstead were put on the back foot straight from the kick off by their opponents, languishing in the relegation zone.

With Mark Daniels replacing Matt Mann in goal, confidence was brimming as Daniels smothered Banstead's first real chance after 17 mins, before Robbie Burns and Neil Wicks went close for Chessington.

The match ebbed and flowed in the second half, and Banstead should have scored when Cambell beat the away defence, only to shoot wide! Chessington put the pressure on and Wicks slid in to watch his shot go wide, as Banstead's keeper Mark Rouse took the striker down with a clumsy challenge, which everyone ( apart from the referee) thought should have been a penalty.

With Wicks back on after treatment, the game approaching extra time, Wicks exchanged passes with Darren Smith and unleashed a fantastic shot from some 30 yards, the keeper was beaten, but the ball smashed off the crossbar and down onto the goal line, and put wide by substitute Dan Bennett.

This put Chessington in the mood for extra-time, and they continued to attack a tired Banstead team, but the home side came back and progressed into Chessington's penalty box, and with Matty Bennett defending the striker, both players slipped over, and the Referee, astonished everyone, deciding there was contact and awarded a penalty.

This was put away by R. Townsend on 100 mins. Still Chessington attacked, looking for the equaliser, but in doing this, they left holes in the defence and Banstead should have wrapped it up with five mins to go, only for Bennett to head off the line.

One last effort saw Smith's far post header tipped over by Rouse for a corner, the referee blowing for time, with Chessington feeling hard done by the referee's decision, but should be proud of the way they performed.

Chessington host Sandhurst Town at Chalky Lane on Saturday (3pm).
