Richmond Park and Twickenham have been named as the UK's two highest-earning parliamentary constituencies.

The rich list is dominated by south-west London Commons seats, with Zac Goldsmith's Richmond Park and north Kingston constituency - including Richmond, Barnes, Mortlake, Ham and Kew - deemed the highest earners.

The average household income was £58,400 - 38 per cent more than the national average of £36,000, according to the Wealth of the Nation report compiled by consumer intelligence company CACI.

Across the river, Business Secretary Vince Cable's Twickenham seat sees constituents earning an average of £57,100.

Twickenham is the only non-Conservative parliamentary seat to make the top 10, with Liberal Democrat Dr Cable toppling the Tory safe seat in 1997.

The highest earners list also sees nearby seats including Wimbledon, Esher and Walton and Battersea topping £52,000 on average.

At the other end of the scale, Hodge Hill in Birmingham and Brightside and Hillsborough in Sheffield have the lowest UK averages with £23,400 and £24,600 respectively.

Author of the report, CACI director Patrick Tate, told the Evening Standard: "In Richmond Park, for example, you have got a total of 51,000 households.

"There will be a lot of pensioners who have a very affluent lifestyle because their houses have been paid off but their actual income is quite low."

As a borough, Richmond has the second highest-earning residents in Britain with an average of £58,000, behind only the City of London's £58,600 average.

Neighbouring Elmbridge came third with a £56,000 average.

Richmond also appears to be the place to find high-earning young singles and couples, or those whose children have flown the nest, with the borough topping both categories.

Singles and couples aged 18 to 34 with no children earn £58,700 while "empty nesters", with no children in the household, are earning £61,400 on average with Twickenham Riverside a particular hot spot.

When broken down into postcodes, Kingston's KT postcode sees an average income of £51,400, with Twickenham (TW) 10th with £46,600 average - the first time it made the top 10 since 2006.

The highest earning postcodes in the borough are north of Marble Hill Park (TW1 2) and north of the London Wetland Centre in Barnes (SW13 8).
