Disgraced PR publicist and Hersham resident Max Clifford, is appealing against his eight year prison sentence, after being found guilty of eight of 11 charges of indecent assault in April 2014.

Clifford, 71, of Onslow Road, has been granted an appeal date of Thursday, October 9, at the Court of Appeal in London.

The charges related to seven different women between the ages of 14 to 20, with the offences dating back to between 1966 and 1984.

Originally arrested in December 2012 under Operation Yewtree, Clifford was charged in April 2013.

He was the first person to be found guilty as part of the investigation launched by Scotland Yard after claims were made against Jimmy Savile, although Clifford was investigated under a branch not linked to Savile himself.

Clifford was a patron of a number of charities based in and near the borough, including Woking and Sam Beare Hospice and Shooting Star Chase. He had also contributed vast amounts of money to Oasis Children’s Charity, Cobham.
