A burst water main has been causing traffic chaos in Epsom Downs today.

Thames Water said it is repairing a leak on a 12-inch water pipe on Langley Vale Road, Epsom Downs, which was discovered this morning.

Epsom resident Andrew Wills said that the road was still closed to traffic at 1.30pm today, with long queues of diverted traffic building.

But as of 4.45pm, Langley Vale Road re-opened.

A Thames Water spokeswoman said: "We have unblocked the council gullies so water has drained away and we have also pumped water away.

"The repairs work should finish later tonight, but the road has now re-opened.

"Thankfully our customers’ supply has not been affected."

It is understood that the burst has caused high water levels under the racecourse bridge
