Artwork by Battersea students praised by Sir Paul McCartney at US Embassy

Artwork by schoolchildren displayed in the US Embassy has been praised by Sir Paul McCartney.

An exhibition by pupils from Griffin, Chesterton and St George's Church of England primary schools has been on display at the building in Grosvenor Square, Mayfair.

The paintings, on display in the Consular Waiting Rooms, were inspired by Kauffer's London Underground posters and the Tube's 150th anniversary.

Pupils imagined new forms of transport with catchy slogans and the name of a fictional location.

Some of the youngsters were invited to the building with their teachers for a special reception last week, while celebrity visitors have praised the artwork.

Tom Leary, public affairs counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in London, said: "I’d like to thank these talented young people for the hard work they put in to this project. It’s been a real privilege to have your work on display here at Grosvenor Square.

"We are all looking forward to moving to Battersea in a just a few years time and this is just one of the ways we are getting to know our future neighbours and building links with the local community in Wandsworth."

The artwork was on display at The Pump House Gallery in Battersea Park before moving to the US Embassy.

Construction work began last week on building the new US Embassy at Nine Elms.
