Disgraced barrister Constance Briscoe has been jailed for 16 months, after lying to police investigating the Chris Huhne speeding points scandal.

The part-time judge was convicted of three counts of perverting the course of justice yesterday, after she mislead officers carrying out the probe.

Briscoe, from Clapham, pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

The first alleged she provided police with two inaccurate statements between May 16, 2011 and October 6, 2012.

The second charge accused her of producing an altered copy of a statement on October 6, which she went on to claim was the correct version.

She also faced a charge for making a document expert read the wrong version of her witness statement.

Briscoe was found unanimously guilty of all charges at the Old Bailey yesterday.

She stood trial at Southwark Crown Court in January, but the jury failed to reach a verdict.

Briscoe was friends with the economist Vicky Pryce, who was married to the former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Chris Huhne.

After their split in 2010 Ms Pryce revealed to newspapers she had taken on some of her husband’s speeding points when they were married.

The pair were jailed for eight months and have now completed their prison terms.

Briscoe will now serve double the sentence that was handed down to Ms Pryce and Mr Huhne.
