A dozen eco-friendly homes have been officially opened in Thames Ditton.

The affordable homes in Imber Cross, which include six for people with physical disabilities, were declared open in a ribbon cutting ceremony by Dominic Raab, MP for Esher and Walton on Friday, October 18.

Built by Rosemary Simmons Memorial Housing Association (RSMHA), the development received £300,000 from Elmbridge Council in line with the sustainable homes framework and is made up of two three-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom apartments.

The homes all use solar panels, pumps that take heat from outside to heat inside and ventilation systems, which use warm air from kitchens and bathrooms to heat other rooms, meaning CO2 emissions and energy costs are reduced.

The site was previously occupied by bungalows, with three of the previous residents now living in the new homes which are more suitable to their needs.

Paul Yates, chief executive of RSMHA, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to provide new homes on land owned by the association for some years.

“The six bungalows that were previously located on the site had reached the end of their natural life and we have now doubled the number of homes at Imber Cross available for local people at social rent levels."

Councillor James Browne, portfolio holder for housing, said the development was something RSMHA and Elmbridge council can both be proud of.
