A large fire that broke out at a warehouse in Mitcham this afternoon has been brought under control.
Firefighters and police were called to Bond Road just after 1pm after a medical supplies warehouse caught alight.
Seventy two fire fighters and ten fire engines battled the blaze bringing it under control by about 3.20pm.
The fire severely damaged the building but fortunately there were no casualties.
Carl St Paul, station manager from Acton fire station who was at the scene said: “The crews were very quickly on the scene and got water on the fire very quickly which helped to get the fire under control.
“There was a large plume of smoke which could be seen across London but fortunately no-one was injured in the incident.”
Ten fire engines, two from Tooting, Sutton and Norbury fire stations, and one each from Mitcham, Clapham, Wandsworth and Croydon fire stations, went to the scene in a medical supplies warehouse.
According to the London Ambulance Service one person was treated at the scene but was not taken to hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Christchurch Road is currently had been closed both ways but has since reopened.
