An historic Coulsdon bowls club are celebrating landing a £30,000 lottery grant.
Old Coulsdon Bowling Club will use the money to fund a major upgrade to its facilities, in Coulsdon Road, including improved disabled access and a new indoor green.
It received the grant from Sport England's Inspired Facilities fund.
The club, founded in 1936, is one the largest in Surrey with over 200 members. It competes in local, regional and national competitions.
David Howe, the clubs treasurer, said the money would enable it to play a greater role in the community.
He said: "This news has created a real buzz of excitement in the club.
"It is a major show of confidence for the club and for bowling by the lottery funding organisation.
"Our club is already used and hired by many local people both for social and for sport events, and as a result of this news, we expect increased membership and even greater use by the local community."
Richard Ottaway, Croydon South MP, said: "I’m delighted by the news about the lottery funding for Old Coulsdon Bowling Club and I can’t wait to see the end result a year from now.
"This is an investment into the local community both for today and the future. It will enable more local people of all ages to get involved in sport and keep active."
More than 300 projects across the country secured investment in the fourth round of the Inspired Facilities fund.
