Mile Jedinak is under no illusions as to the task that awaits Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The Eagles skipper will lead Palace out at Selhurst Park on Sunday as they take on Tottenham Hotspur in their first top tier game in eight years.

Bookmakers and pundits have made Palace firm favourites to go straight back down and Spurs - who will give debuts to new £43m pair on Paulinho and Roberto Soldado on Sunday - will be expected to brush them aside.

But Jedinak has no doubts the Eagles can upset the odds.

"We are up against it," he said.

"However, there are many other teams up against it as well.

"Everyone will be trying to put their best foot forward to get where they want to be as every team wants to stay in the Premier League and we are no different.

"It is going to be a good test of character and Sunday is going to be a massive test.

"It is our first game of the season against one of the top Premier League teams.

"We are under no illusions it is going to be difficult but in saying that we will be looking to show what we can do."

When the Eagles take to pitch on Sunday in front of a sold out Selhurst Park, it will have only been 83 days since their play-off final win over Watford at Wembley.

It might not seem very long but Jedinak admitted he was fed up of waiting for the season start.

"You want it to come around sooner rather than later and it's been hard waiting the past few weeks," he said.

"Sunday will be a situation we haven't experienced before but it is something we have all been looking forward to and it's important to bring that energy from the end of last season from everyone.

"Everyone will feed off each other and it will put us in good stead when we play at Selhurst and away from home, as we always have a good travelling support."

Jedinak was forced off with a black eye from a clash of heads in the second-half of Palace's 1-0 loss to friendly loss to Lazio on Saturday but has trained as normal this week and is fit for Sunday.

"It's ok, it just came up quickly but has settled down and gone black," he added.

"It will be fine and it hasn't stopped me from training."
