A rapper broke down in tears in court yesterday after recalling the moments two gunmen shot dead his stepdad in his own home.

Carlton Ned was fatally shot at his home in Langdale Road, Thornton Heath, in the early hours of July 1, 2011.

The 41-year-old had been protecting his wife Donna Michael and stepson Karl Wilson, in the family home in what the prosecutor described last week in court as a "mid-summers night nightmare."

The 23-year-old told the Old Bailey jury two men armed with guns forced their way through the front door, as he returned from a friend’s birthday at about 2.40am.

He ran upstairs to his parents room, where he hid beside a chest of drawers and called police after realising he was the intended target.

One gunman repeatedly kicked the door as Mr Ned and Mrs Michael tried to hold it and forced it off its hinges before shooting Mrs Michael in the chest.

When the gunman pulled back from the door, Mr Ned ran out the room and down the stairs before shots were fired and groaning was heard.

Mrs Michael left the bedroom and saw Mr Ned in a ball on the floor.

Police and London Ambulance were called to the address but Mr Ned died at the scene from a single gun wound to the chest at 3.35am.

Mrs Michael was also treated for the wound to her chest and has since made a full recovery Mr Wilson wept as the 999 call was played, in which he said: "Come quickly they are trying to kill me. I think my mum’s husband has been shot. I am scared and hiding."

Jurors were told the rapper left the house after the shooting returning to a nearby party he had just left.

When asked why he didn’t stay Mr Wilson said he was still in shock.

He said: “My mum was at the bottom of the stairs and Carlton was just lying there. There was blood and I just looked and saw my mum screaming and there was a neighbour doing CPR as well.

“I paused as I was still in shock then I stepped over my step-father and left the house.”

He later returned to help his mum.

Three weeks after the incident Christopher Thomas of Morrison House, Tulse Hill, was arrested in Brockwell Park.

The court heard Mr Wilson and Mr Thomas were known to each other because their girlfriends were friends and Mr Thomas was jealous of Mr Wilson and his girlfriend Carmina Carew's friendship when the pair split up.

Mr Wilson told the court he had ‘got with’ Carmina on one occasion in 2010 after he had split with his previous girlfriend and she had broken up with Mr Thomas.

The jury heard in June 2010, Mr Wilson was lured to Brockwell Park after exchanging BBM messages with someone he thought was Miss Carew.

He arrived at the park in the early hours of the morning, but he could not find her. As he left the park Mr Wilson was ambushed by three men armed with knives who said “there he is” and chased him, the court heard.

He managed to run away from the gang and called police. When officers took Mr Wilson back to his car they found his tyres had been slashed.

Mr Wilson said he didn’t try to contact Carmina Carew after the incident.

Mr Thomas denies six charges including murder, attempted murder and wounding with intent.

The case continues.
