Carnival organisers are calling on businesses, schools and families in New Addington to help make this year's event the biggest ever.

The New Addington Carnival takes place at Milne Park over June 28 and 29, with a host of activities for children and adults.

But there is still spaces available in a variety of competitions, as well as the procession itself through the streets on Sunday.

Organiser Marion Burchell said: "We would like to see anything and everything.

"In the past we've had singing, dancing, soloists and even a band.

"This carnival is only as good as your support.

"It's your carnival so come along and help make it the best yet."

Highlights on Saturday include a little league football tournament, karate display and performances from Fairchilde's and Rowdean primary school choirs.

Sunday sees the procession featuring a marching band, steel drums, a fancy dress competiton and the crowning of the carnival King and Queen.

Children aged five and under can participate in the Prince and Princess competition.

A car boot sale will be held over both days and there will also be a pet show, a cake sale and the return of the New Addington's Got Talent contest.

Carnival committee member Kirsty Pearce said: "The procession is fully marshalled, with the support of the police, Croydon Council and Transport for London, so it's safe.

"It costs nothing to join it and if you're a business it's free advertising."

Entry forms can be downloaded through New Addington Carnival's Facebook page, or visit the New Addington Pathfinders through the Octogon Centre in Central Parade.
