Most schoolchildren travel to school by car, bicycle or on foot, but a St George’s Junior School pupil switched land for water last week.

Felicity Hannaford, a year 6 pupil, rowed to her Weybridge school with her father in their canoe as part of the Golden Boot Challenge.

The challenge is the biggest school travel competition in the country and the annual challenge aims to encourage children, parents and schools to choose sustainable alternatives to driving to school.

Felicity’s father Mike said: “Felicity and I wanted a way to celebrate the Golden Boot Challenge. As we walk to school every day anyway, we chose canoe to show that there are other ways to travel under your own steam.”

St George’s Junior School takes part in the challenge to help encourage parents to find alternative methods of transport to help reduce congestion around the school and reduce their carbon footprint.
