Two special matinee shows celebrating Britain and its rich wartime heritage will be coming to the Rose Theatre at the end of this month.

We’ll Meet Again, which has been running for more than 15 years and still manages to grab an audience every time, will be bringing back to life themes of camaraderie, austerity and optimism that commanded bygone years.

The record-breaking national tour is all about nostalgia and includes patriotic music from the blitz era, typical Blackadder-esque British humour and the regular cast of the play who do not disappoint in their warm celebration of yesteryear.

Comedy star Adam Daye from the hit 1970s TV impression show Who Do You Do is also part of the line-up, alongside Britain’s best ukulele player Andy Eastwood, who will play classical pieces including a tribute to French violinist Stephane Grappele in his set.

Providing familiarity will be the memorable and spine-tingling songs of Vera Lynn, which Marilyn Hill Smith from Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night and West End theatre smash, The Sound of Music, will entertain audiences with.

The sentimental melodies will also be carried on by Tony Leyton, who will treat audiences to the unforgettable songs of Bing Crosby, while the Martyn St James Band will perform big band hits.

A spokesman from the Rose Theatre says: “We’re really excited that everyone is going to have the chance to enjoy these great British forms of entertainment once again, especially as Kingston has such a long association with the stars of Music Hall and Variety.”
