An Epsom supermarket which allows charities and good causes to fundraise and promote themselves in store was visited by MP Chris Grayling last week.

Mr Grayling, who was on Parliamentary recess at the time, met staff and customers on Friday, April 12, during a walkabout at Sainsbury’s in Kiln Lane.

Store manager Richard Hay said he was delighted to show the Epsom and Ewell MP around the store and the expansion of its online operation.

Mr Hay said: "Sainsbury’s prides itself on being a great place to work and we were proud to show Chris Grayling MP how active we are in the local community.

"We’ve been supporting Epsom General Hospital this year."

Mr Hay explained that each year, in May, customers and colleagues nominate a favourite charity.

The selection is then whittled down to three and the most popular is selected by a ‘colleague council.’

Mr Grayling said: "The internet shopping set-up in Epsom is really impressive.

"But the good thing is that by integrating the store and the delivery operation, we keep jobs and the shop in the area at a time when more and more shopping is being done online."
