More than 500 potholes and damaged roads and footpaths have been nominated for repair.

Richmond Council called on residents to submit the areas they would most like to see mended under the community road and pavement fund.

Last year the scheme attracted 439 nominations which resulted in repairs to 33 pothole hotspots.

People in Richmond, St Margaret’s and Teddington submitted the most nominations this year.

Councillor Geoffrey Samuel said: “This is a wonderful example of direct democracy.

“Richmond is the first council to allow residents to vote on the road repairs that clearly mean the most to them.

“The council has shown its commitment to meeting needs and has trebled its spending on road and footway repairs.”
