Volunteers strapped on their waders and braved the cold this weekend to help clean up the River Wandle.

The River Wandle has seen huge improvements thanks to the efforts of volunteers from the Wandle Trust, pictured here in Kimber Road, Earlsfield.

But London's second biggest river is still used as a rubbish tip by many, with volunteers usually collecting at least two skips of rubbish in around four hours.

The trust has recently joined forces with the Environment Agency to help train volunteers to assess minor pollution incidents.

Clean-ups take place on the second Sunday of every month at various river locations.

The next session is planned for Sunday, March 10.
