A double-decker bus careered into the grounds of a community centre last night.

Police said the 111 bus crashed into a pickup truck and a lamp post before smashing through the fence of Linden Hall, in Linden Road, Hampton.

A spokesman from the day centre for over 60s said no one from Linden Hall was hurt and the building itself was undamaged but the perimeter railings were knocked down.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said they were called to the crash near a level crossing at 5.20pm on Thursday, February 7, but no one was injured.

Nearby Hampton Junior School and Athelstan House School said no schoolchildren were involved in the incident but members of staff said the bus had ‘careered’ through the gates.

A passerby said: “I drove past and there were police cars and an ambulance. The bus was still there and had gone quite far into the garden of the hall.”

Police shut the road while the bus, which was badly damaged, was recovered.

Mike Weston operations director of London buses said a full investigation would be carried out into the incident.
